For Centuries people have traveled through what is now known as Montague County. They traveled by foot and horse and wagon. Eventually they traveled by rail and road. Permanent settlement was slow in coming, but with the establishment of Head of Elm, the county soon began to grow. Every individual that passed through left their footprint in time. It has been a long time dream of the citizens of Montague County to have a place to showcase the mementoes of their history. The Tales ‘N’ Trails Museum provides the perfect repository for the relics and artifacts of the county’s past.
Tales ‘N’ Trails Museum, much like the county itself, was a long time coming to fruition. In the early 1990s, talk of a museum began. Finally, in June 2010, we opened the doors to our past so that we may see our future.
Tales ‘N’ Trails Museum has five focus area which includes our western heritage, Native American heritage, the oil and gas industry, agriculture and the leather industry.
The museum is opened Monday through Saturday from 10am to 5pm and on Sundays by appointment. Located at 1522 E Hwy 82, Nocona, TX. Phone number is 940.825.5330.
